9/1979-11/1985 studied physics at the University of Bonn. Diploma thesis on cochlear models (tutors: Prof. Dr. Vladimir Rittenberg, Bonn, and Prof. Dr. Egbert de Boer, Amsterdam).

4/1981-9/1988 Study of medicine at the University of Bonn. Doctorate on signal detection theory (tutor: Prof. Dr. Detlef B. Linke).

9/1988-8/1991 Stay abroad at the Laboratoire d'Audiologie Expérimentale, INSERM, Bordeaux (Dr. Jean-Marie Aran), and at the Laboratoire de Psychoacoustique, Université de Bordeaux 2 (Dr. Laurent Demany).
