General and Biological Psychology: Emotion and Oscillation Lab

peripheral psychophysiology

Somatic markers govern our behavior more than we might believe. Bodily expressions of our inner states affect our processing of new information and are thus part of a recurrent interaction loop. If we want to understand how we grasp the world and react to it, we should examine bodily reactions very carefully. In our lab we assess various measures of bodily reactions. We measure heart rate, blood volume pulse, respiratory rate and respiration depth, and electromyographic signals of mimic responses. We have great expertise in the analysis of skin conductance data, and we have a special focus on piloerection, i.e., goose bumps.
